Tensions Erupt in J&K Assembly as Waheed Para Defends Jamaat e Islami and Mufti Sayeed Amid ‘Traitor’ Remarks

Jamaat-e-Islami

The J&K Assembly witnessed a tense exchange today as PDP leader Waheed Para defended Jamaat-e-Islami and former PDP founder Mufti Mohammad Sayeed against remarks by NC MLA Nazir Gurez, who labeled Jamaat members as “traitors.”

Responding sharply, Para said that if any talk of traitors arises, the first tag belongs to Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah for his sellout, not Jamaat or PDP founder.

Addressing Chief Minister Omar Abdullah directly, Para said that this isn’t just an ordinary house but history is recorded here. “We raised our voices so that history doesn’t view today’s resolution as surrender, betrayal, or sellout by the people, even as we supported it.

In response, MLA Nazir Gurezi called on the Speaker to review the recording of his speech, insisting he had not made such remarks.

“You have both speeches on record. Kindly check—if I have called them traitors, I’m ready to face any action. Otherwise, I will bring a privilege motion against the MLA,” Gurezi said.(KNS)
