Congress Party welcomes the Resolution Article 370, Reflects Aspirations of People of J&K: Tariq Hameed Karra

J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Chief Tariq Hameed Karra on Wednesday said that the Congress Party welcomes the resolution passed by the J&K Assembly seeking the restoration of constitutional and democratic rights of the people of J&K, including statehood and all constitutional guarantees.

“After the Supreme Court verdict, this is the first democratic expression of the people of J&K, reflecting their aspirations. There is no reason for the Central Government to deny rights and protections to the people of J&K that are already in place in many other parts of the country,” he said.

“The Indian National Congress (INC) is committed to fighting for statehood for J&K and safeguarding the rights of its people, including land, jobs, natural resources, and cultural identity,” he added.

“BJP’s opposition to the resolution shows that their political interests conflict with the aspirations of the people of J&K. They are not only disregarding the sentiment of the people but also obstructing the restoration of constitutional and democratic rights, including cultural identity, land, jobs, and natural resources. They cannot claim to represent the people of J&K while acting against their rights,” he said.

He said that the resolution provides an opportunity for meaningful engagement between New Delhi and the people of J&K, in light of the mistrust created by the actions of the BJP government over the past several years.(KNS)
