ARTO Baramulla Cracks Down on Helmet Violations, Issues E-Challans and Seizes Motorcycles

In a stringent move against motorists riding without helmets, the Assistant Regional Transport Office (ARTO) Baramulla launched an enforcement drive today targeting errant motorcyclists in the district.

During the drive, 10 motorists were issued e-challans, and 5 motorcycles were seized for violating traffic norms. Show-cause notices for the suspension of driving licenses were given to those found riding without helmets. Additionally, 10 maxicabs were challaned for overloading.

Assistant Regional Transport Officer Muazzam Ali stated that the drive will be intensified in the coming days.

He emphasized that wearing a helmet is mandatory for both the rider and the pillion under section 129/177 of the Motor Vehicle Act.

The ARTO is also planning to organize a counseling program to educate applicants for two-wheeler driving licenses on the importance of helmet use. Applicants will be required to provide an undertaking to use helmets while driving two-wheelers.
