Decisive Crackdown: Over 200 Militants Arrested and 69 Neutralized in Srinagar District

Over the course of the past five years, there has been a significant crackdown on militant activity in Srinagar district. Official records obtained by Kashmir News Observer (KNO) indicate that a total of 69 militants have been neutralized from 2019 to January 2024, with an additional 200 militants apprehended during this period.

Interestingly, the data reveals a fluctuating trend in militant encounters. While 2019 saw a relatively lower number of militant casualties, with only four militants eliminated, the subsequent years witnessed a surge. In 2020, 22 militants met their end, followed by a substantial increase in 2021, with 24 militants taken out. The momentum continued in 2022, albeit slightly reduced, with 19 militants eliminated.

However, the scenario took a turn in 2023 and the beginning of 2024, as no militant activities were reported in Srinagar district during this period. Correspondingly, there were no arrests made in the district in the first month of 2024.

These statistics, disclosed in response to a Right to Information (RTI) application by activist M M Shuja, underscore the concerted efforts of the district police in curbing militant operations. It’s noteworthy that while the number of militants neutralized fluctuated over the years, the overall trend reflects a decisive push against militant elements, with the peak seen in 2021.

These developments shed light on the evolving security landscape in Srinagar district, emphasizing the proactive measures taken to ensure peace and stability in the region.
