Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University Rajouri Celebrates World Mental Health Day

Centre for Multidisciplinary Studies and Research (CMSR), Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University Rajouri celebrated world mental health day. Prof. Akbar Masood, Vice Chancellor of the University in his message said that the aim of celebrating World Mental Health Day is to raise awareness among students and staff about mental health issues and taking necessary measures to address mental health. The Vice Chancellor lauded CMSR for organizing the event on such an important theme.

On the occasion, Dr. Parvaiz Alam, HoD Department of Psychiatry, GMC Rajouri delivered and extension lecture on the theme ‘ Mental Health at Workplace’. Dr. Alam said that mental health is as essential as physical health, yet it’s often overlooked. He mentioned that mental health refers to emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. He explained some common mental health issues like Anxiety Disorders, Depression, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD),Eating Disorders and Substance Abuse.

He said that mental illness is not a weakness and can affect everyone, regardless of age, background, or socioeconomic status.He mentioned that seeking help is a sign of strength. While discussing the strategies for good Mental Health , he said that social connections and strong relationships help in the management of mental health issues.

Earlier, Dr. Danish Iqbal Raina, Coordinator, CMSR in his address said that prioritizing mental health is crucial for overall well-being. By breaking stigmas and promoting awareness, we can create a supportive environment for those facing mental health issues.

Those who were present on the occasion included Mr. Asrar Ghaus , Coordinator CHT, Dr. Parvez Abdullah, Head , Department of Management Studies and Dr. Malik Mubashir, Convener, University Placement Committee. More than a hundred students participated in the event.

On the occasion, College of Nursing, BGSBU organised a webinar by inviting eminent health care professionals to speak on the various issues related to mental health.
