Sectarian Debate Between Barelvi and Deobandi Clerics in Kashmir Sparks Concern

Sectarian Debate

Srinagar: A recent debate between Barelvi and Deobandi clerics in Kashmir has stirred concerns among the public, as religious disagreements from Uttar Pradesh appear to be taking root in the valley.

Two days ago, religious scholars from both sects engaged in a heated discussion, attempting to prove each other wrong. However, the debate ended without any side being declared victorious or defeated. The disagreement, originally prevalent among clerics in UP, has now found its way to Kashmir, raising apprehensions among locals.

People in Kashmir have largely rejected such sectarian debates, expressing their disapproval of religious divisions. Many believe that such disputes disrupt the region’s harmony and should not be encouraged. Religious scholars and community leaders have urged clerics to focus on unity and social welfare rather than engaging in divisive arguments.

Authorities and civil society groups have also voiced concerns over the potential consequences of importing sectarian conflicts into Kashmir. The call for maintaining peace and brotherhood remains strong, as the people of Kashmir continue to emphasize their preference for religious coexistence over discord.
