Police in Srinagar successfully busted a major drug racket, arresting two drug peddlers and seizing 10 kilograms of heroin, allegedly smuggled from Pakistan, valued at over Rs 32 crores.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar, Imtiyaz Hussain, revealed that the recovery—one of the biggest so far—was made from a Tata Sumo intercepted at a checkpoint at Barthana crossing. During a routine checkpoint by a team from Police Post Qamarwari, the Tata Sumo bearing registration number JK05D-1837 was searched, revealing six kilograms of heroin concealed beneath the driver’s seat, and an additional two kilograms on the suspects.

The arrested individuals were identified as Anas Ajaz Awan from Dildar Tangdar, Kupwara, and Zahid Ahmad Sheikh from Channipora, Tangdar, Kupwara. Preliminary investigations indicated that the narcotics were part of a cross-border drug trafficking network from Pakistan.

The SSP assured the public of their commitment to eradicating drugs from society and issued a stern warning to those involved in drug trafficking. The seized narcotics and vehicle were confiscated as evidence, and Case FIR No. 03/2025 under Sections 8/21 and 29 of the NDPS Act has been registered. Further investigation is underway to dismantle the syndicate and identify all individuals involved.

The police reiterated their zero-tolerance policy against narcotics, pledging to bring all those involved in such criminal activities to justice with the full force of the law.
