Conman Fayaz Ahmad Sheikh Arrested in Srinagar for Fraudulent Promise to Release Detainee

In Srinagar’s Nowhatta area, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have apprehended a conman involved in a fraudulent scheme to secure a detainee’s release. According to a police spokesperson, Showkat Ahmad Sheikh of Zahid Pora, Hawal, lodged a complaint alleging that Fayaz Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Sheikh Colony, Makhdoom Sahib, deceived him out of Rs 30,000. Fayaz falsely promised to facilitate the release of Showkat’s brother, Sajad Sheikh, who was lawfully detained in connection with a narcotics case (FIR No. 55/2024) under the NDPS Act.

During the investigation, it was revealed that Fayaz exploited the situation by pretending to have influence to secure Sajad’s release. The police have successfully recovered the entire amount from Fayaz. The case, now registered under FIR No. 01/2025 at Police Station Nowhatta, remains under investigation.

Police have urged the public to be cautious of similar fraudulent activities and report any suspicious behavior to authorities.
