MLA Langate Sheikh Khurshid, following the path of his brother, Member of Parliament Engineer Rashid, staged a sit-in protest outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Kupwara on Saturday.

Carrying a damaged stabilizer from Lalbug Ganapora, he highlighted the administration’s failure to repair the essential equipment, which had caused drinking water disruptions in the village.

MLA Khurshid criticized the authorities for their inaction, stating that while district administration conduct multiple meetings aimed at improving public services, the ground reality remains different.

He pointed out that the Lalbug Ganapora panchayat had spent ₹23 lakh on a stabilizer transformer and water pump, yet these facilities remained non-functional for months.

“The stabilizer was defunct for a long period. Even after it was started, the mechanical department neglected its maintenance, leading to severe water supply disruption in the panchayat,” he told Rising Kashmir. He added that repeated requests to the concerned department were ignored, leaving him with no option but to stage a protest outside the DC office.

Following the protest, the issue was resolved. An employee from the mechanical department was designated to provide technical support, and the damaged stabilizer was replaced. As a result, the water supply to the affected village has been restored, Khurshid added.

Expressing his commitment to the people, MLA Khurshid stated, “The residents have entrusted me with their votes, and I will always be at the forefront to address their concerns. I will go to any extent to fulfill their legal demands and ensure they get better facilities.”
