Kashmir Faces Intense Chillai Kalan Cold Spell; Light to Moderate Snow Expected in Early January
Kashmir is experiencing extremely cold weather, gripped by the intense Chillai Kalan, the hardest 40 day period of winter.
According to the Kashmir weather forecast, Srinagar recorded a temperature of – 3.5 degrees Celsius.Tourist destination places Like pahalgam and Gulmarg recorded a temperature of -8.4⁰C and -11.5 ⁰ C.
Budgam and Ganderbal recorded temperatures of -4.4°C and -3.4°C, respectively. Meanwhile, Bandipora and Baramulla recorded temperatures of -0.6°C and -4.0°C.The Meteorological department predicts a severe cold spell will grip the region over the next 4-8 days.
According to the Meteorological department, December 31st is expected to be cold and dry. Starting January 1st, two consecutive Western Disturbances will bring changes to J&K and surrounding areas. 1-2 Jan(Feeble WD):Light Snow at scattered places during 1st evening to 2nd morning. On 3-6 Jan(Moderate WD):Light to moderate Snow at many places.
