Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, accompanied by Health Minister Sakeena Itoo, paid a visit to the 500-bed Children’s Hospital Bemina on Wednesday. During the visit, the CM interacted with patients, their attendants, and hospital staff to understand the challenges faced by the hospital since its relocation from GB Pant Hospital.

Hospital officials briefed Abdullah about the increased patient load, which has placed significant strain on the hospital’s facilities. Attendants from remote areas raised concerns about the lack of shelter for those accompanying patients, prompting Abdullah to immediately instruct authorities to prioritize the construction of an attendant shelter.

The Chief Minister was also made aware of the Children’s Hospital Bemina space constraints, which have hindered the expansion of super-specialty services. Hospital officials highlighted the shortage of medical faculty and paramedical staff, which further limits the hospital’s ability to meet the growing demand for healthcare services. Abdullah assured that these issues would be addressed promptly and emphasized that the shortage of medical staff across healthcare facilities in Jammu and Kashmir would be tackled on a priority basis.

Abdullah also directed the authorities to ensure the timely availability of medicines and other essential services for patients. The hospital officials informed the CM that a Preliminary Project Report (PPR) for the attendant shelter had already been submitted to the Government Medical College Srinagar, in line with directives from the Chief Engineer of Public Works (R&B) Central, Kashmir.

The Chief Minister’s visit underscored his commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure and addressing critical issues at the Children’s Hospital in Bemina to better serve the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
