Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) Hosts Outreach Programs to Strengthen Community Engagement and Academic Development
The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) has been actively organizing a variety of outreach and mentorship initiatives as part of its commitment to fostering academic development, community engagement, and mentoring. These programs, hosted by the Department of English Language and Literature, aim to connect with the community while promoting academic growth among students.
One of the key objectives of these efforts is to reduce school dropouts and motivate younger students to pursue higher education. To achieve this, IUST has been inviting school students to visit the campus, explore different academic facilities, and interact with faculty members and scholars. Recently, students from PM Shri C.I. Dass School in Achabal, accompanied by their teachers, participated in such an outreach event. They toured several facilities, including the Library, Language Labs, and laboratories associated with the Department of Food Technology. Dr. Farrukh Faizan coordinated this enriching experience.
In addition to school visits, IUST also organized an Alumni Interaction session on applying for higher studies abroad. The session featured two distinguished alumni, Ms. Tabish Nabi, a PhD student at the University of Debrecen, and Ms. Sehrish Shafi, a Master’s student at the University of Birmingham. They shared their valuable insights on applying to international universities, providing guidance on scholarships, the application process, and research opportunities. The session offered participants a wealth of knowledge on pursuing higher education abroad.
Furthermore, an interactive session titled Demystifying NET/SET Exams: A Step-by-Step Approach to Success was held for current students preparing for competitive exams. Alumni from the 2017 and 2019 batches shared their strategies, experiences, and tips for success in the NET and SET exams. The session, organized by Alumni Coordinator Ms. Isma Hamid, was presided over by Dr. Munejah Khan, Head of the Department of English. Dr. Khan emphasized the importance of alumni mentorship in supporting the academic growth of current students. She also highlighted how such programs strengthen IUST’s role in bridging academic aspirations with real-world opportunities while fostering community connections.
These programs exemplify IUST’s ongoing commitment to supporting students’ academic journeys, providing mentorship, and creating strong ties with the wider community.
