Abdullah acknowledged the J&K’s political and constitutional changes over the past six years, noting the loss of statehood, a unique constitution, and a regional flag. Despite these setbacks, he affirmed his government’s commitment to building a better future for Jammu and Kashmir. “We have lost a lot… but I will work tirelessly for the people of this Union Territory,” Abdullah declared.
He expressed gratitude to the electorate for their support, calling the government inclusive and focused on serving all communities, regardless of political affiliations.Abdullah emphasized the importance of recent elections, citing them as proof that democracy remains active in the region, despite initial doubts from some quarters.
Addressing criticisms from the opposition, Abdullah expressed disappointment over their exit from the session, noting that he hoped for meaningful discussions on issues like statehood and constitutional guarantees.
He clarified that the National Conference’s (NC) resolution for special status was not a compromise but a legitimate effort to restore Jammu and Kashmir’s rights.Abdullah also criticized the central government’s response to the region’s demands, expressing hope that autonomy might someday be restored.
He praised his administration’s focus on reforms, including student examination processes and job opportunities, adding that his government’s agenda would be set by the people of Kashmir, not social media.
Abdullah addressed security challenges, advocating for peace through cooperation rather than suppression and affirming his government’s support for the security forces. He also raised local issues, including difficulties faced by residents on highways and the CID verification process, urging review for individuals without serious charges.
Reiterating his commitment to restoring Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood, Abdullah said he remained optimistic about the J&K’s future. He concluded by affirming that while industries were welcome, there would be no compromise on local assets, and that the government’s long-term goals extended beyond the LG’s address. (KNS)
