Gang of Burglars in Handwara Busted, Stolen property worth lakhs recovered: Police

In a significant breakthrough, Police in Handwara have busted a gang, involved in a series of thefts and recovered stolen property worth lakhs from their possession.

The incident came to light when Javid Ahmad Bhat son of Asadullah Bhat and resident of Kulangam, reported a theft in his godown at Kulangam to the Police Post Chogul. A case vide FIR No. 199/2024 was registered in PS Handwara under relevant sections of law and the investigation was promptly launched.

During the course of the investigation, Ishfaq Ahmad Beigh son of Habibullah Beigh from Kulangam, was apprehended. His arrest led to the identification and arrest of three additional suspects involved in the theft namely Umer Bin Wali son of Wali Mohammad Payer resident of Highama, Kupwara, Danish Khaliq Ganie son of Abdul Khaliq Ganie resident of Neelipora, Magam, Adil Ahmad Chopan son of Habibullah Chopan resident of Nagri Hatmullah.

The prompt action by the Police led to the recovery of stolen property valued in lakhs, striking a major blow to the gang’s operations in the region. Investigation of the case is going on to uncover further details of the gang’s activities.

On their disclosure, 34 Carpets, 10 Chairs, Tramies, Sarpoosh, 34 Mattresses and 34 Quilts and other materials have been recovered so far.
