A rally led by MLA Gurez Nazir Ahmad Khan turned violent in Gujran, Tulail, North Kashmir’s Bandipora district, leaving at least a dozen people injured as a mob reportedly attacked the gathering.
According to officials, the incident occurred as the rally passed through the area, with multiple vehicles damaged amid the clashes. Several of the injured were taken to a nearby hospital, while three individuals with serious injuries were later referred to a Srinagar hospital for advanced treatment.
Police responded to the clash by deploying smoke shells to control the crowd and restore calm. A case has been registered, and investigations are underway, though no arrests have been made as of yet.
MLA Nazir Ahmad Khan alleged that BJP supporters, including relatives of former election rival Faqeer Mohammad Khan, orchestrated the attack on his rally. In response, Ajaz Ahmad Khan, son of BJP leader Faqeer Khan and DDC member of Tulail, countered the accusations, claiming that MLA Nazir Khan’s supporters provoked the villagers by throwing stones at local houses, leading to the altercation.
The situation remains tense as both sides continue to trade blame, with authorities closely monitoring the area to prevent further incidents. (KNS)
