Heavy Rainfall and Snowfall Sweep Across Jammu and Kashmir! What You Need to Know for Your Safety
Over the past 24 hours, extensive rainfall has drenched the plains of Jammu and Kashmir, while higher elevations witnessed snowfall on Sunday, as per officials.Reports indicate that light to moderate rainfall prevailed across most regions, accompanied by light snowfall in higher areas, including the Gurez valley.
The Meteorological Department’s (MeT) forecast indicates the continuation of cloudy conditions with expectations of light to moderate rain and snowfall in higher regions for the upcoming days. Specifically, from April 14th to 15th, widespread rainfall is anticipated, with potential heavy rain, thunder, lightning, and gusty winds at isolated spots.
In light of this forecast, farmers are advised to halt farm operations until April 16th to prevent any potential damage from adverse weather. Additionally, temporary disruptions in surface transportation are expected in certain high-altitude areas during April 14th and 15th.
Both tourists and travelers are urged to plan their journeys carefully, taking into account the predicted weather conditions. Temporary waterlogging in low-lying areas is expected, and there’s an increased risk of landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones, necessitating caution from both residents and authorities.
Looking ahead, the weather pattern is expected to transition from April 16th onwards to partly to generally cloudy skies with sporadic light rain and snowfall in higher altitudes. However, from April 18th to 19th, cloudy weather is forecasted with light rain and snowfall in numerous areas, accompanied by thunder and lightning.
As we move towards April 20th to 24th, the forecast suggests generally dry weather, though the possibility of afternoon and nighttime thundershower activity cannot be discounted. Stay tuned for further updates.
