The Jammu and Kashmir Police have successfully cracked theft cases at Masjid Sharief and the SBI branch in Pattan, located in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district. The authorities managed to arrest the accused and retrieve the stolen property.
According to a police spokesperson, the incident unfolded when the Police Station Pattan received a written complaint on April 4, 2024, from Ab Majeed Sada, the President of Masjid Baitul Huda Pattan. The complaint outlined the theft of the donation box (safe) from the mosque premises, along with additional items stolen from Masjid Sharief. The thieves also targeted a nearby ziyarat, looting its donation box, and absconded with a jacket and a mobile phone.
Subsequently, the Pattan Police received another report the following day, indicating that the thieves had struck at the State Bank of India branch in the Pattan market, stealing a Samsung tablet.
In response, the Police Station Pattan registered cases FIR 97/2024 and 102/2024 under sections 457 and 380 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and initiated an investigation into the matter.
The spokesperson further detailed that after thorough investigation, it was determined that only one individual was involved in both incidents. Through diligent efforts, the accused, identified as Nasir Ahmad Najar, son of Ab Rashid and resident of Najar Mohalla Pattan, was located at TRC Srinagar and subsequently apprehended for his involvement in the crimes.
