A committee has been established by the Muslim Personal Law Board, spearheaded by Grand Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam Farooqi of Jammu and Kashmir, to evaluate the credibility of witnesses regarding the sighting of the forthcoming Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr crescent in the region. This esteemed committee, which includes notable scholars such as Mirwaiz Kashmir Moulvi Umar Farooq, aims to address any potential confusion among the residents, particularly following differing opinions on last year’s Ramadan moon sighting in the Himalayan area.
Grand Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam Farooqi clarified that the committee is solely constituted by the Muslim Personal Law Board, dismissing any claims suggesting otherwise. The committee members, listed extensively, are tasked with meticulously assessing witness reliability and promptly communicating their findings to the Grand Mufti or any committee member.
The committee members, hailing from various regions of Jammu and Kashmir, will remain vigilant for potential crescent sightings on March 10, 2024. Once a sighting is reported, they will collaborate to verify its authenticity before informing the designated authorities.
This inclusive approach ensures comprehensive coverage across different districts, with representatives assigned from Summer Capital Srinagar to Leh/Ladakh. Each member’s participation underscores the commitment to ensuring a thorough and reliable assessment of the crescent sightings for Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr in Jammu and Kashmir.
