The Department of Economics at the Islamic University Awantiporah, in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI), recently organized an Entrepreneurship Exposure Program as part of the Industry Connect initiative under the Dean Outreach. The program, held at the JKEDI campus, aimed to inspire and equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to venture into entrepreneurship.

The event focused on educating students about the significance of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) and other key aspects of starting a business. Experts from JKEDI guided the students on how to create DPRs and introduced them to various operational verticals within the institute. Additionally, the program highlighted internship and training opportunities offered by JKEDI, further enhancing the students’ understanding of the practical aspects of entrepreneurship.

A key feature of the program was the opportunity for students to interact with successful entrepreneurs. These entrepreneurs shared their inspiring stories, offering valuable insights into the challenges and rewards of pursuing innovative career paths. The interactions encouraged students to consider entrepreneurship as a viable and rewarding career option.

Prof. S.M. Shafi, Head of the Department of Economics at IUST, emphasized the importance of startups in addressing employment challenges, particularly in emerging economies. He highlighted how entrepreneurship can serve as a solution to the rising demand for job creation.

The program was coordinated by Dr. Shumila Cheshti, the Departmental Coordinator of Industry Connect, with the support of other faculty members. This initiative reflects IUST’s ongoing commitment to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship among students, preparing them to contribute meaningfully to the economy.
