Abdul Waheed Parra PDP MLA Moves Resolution For Restoration of Article 370 in JK Assembly
The Legislative Assembly witnessed chaotic scenes on Monday when PDP MLA Waheed ur Rehman Para introduced a resolution calling for the restoration of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Sir, I congratulate you on your election as Speaker. We will learn from your experience. Today, I submit a resolution on behalf of my party for the restoration of Article 370,” Para stated on the first day of assembly.
This move sparked significant unrest, with BJP MLAs demanding the Speaker discard the resolution immediately. Speaker Rather attempted to restore order, asserting, “This is my domain; let me examine this and then decide on the resolution.” Despite his efforts, the 28 BJP legislators continued to protest and refused to take their seats, with BJP Leader of Opposition Sharma remarking, “This is not appropriate on the first day; such matters should not be introduced in this House.”
The Speaker reiterated, “I have not reviewed this copy yet. Allow me to examine it. If you (BJP) choose not to let this House function, there is little I can do.” The assembly remained in turmoil as BJP MLAs persisted in their opposition to Para’s resolution.
