Jammu & Kashmir Deputy Superintendent of Police Booked for Disproportionate Assets

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has registered a case against Chanchal Singh, the Deputy Superintendent of Police in Jammu & Kashmir, for possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

A spokesperson stated, “On 24.06.2024, the Anti-Corruption Bureau Jammu registered FIR No. 08/2024 following a secret verification into allegations against Chanchal Singh. The accused has acquired significant assets beyond his known income sources.”

The investigation revealed that Singh, through corrupt practices during his tenure in lucrative positions, accumulated various movable and immovable properties in his own name, as well as in the names of his family members and relatives. These properties include residential houses, plots, shops, business establishments in different districts of Jammu province, and two hotels in Kullu (Manali), Himachal Pradesh. Additionally, Singh amassed substantial bank balances and valuables.

“Search warrants were obtained from the Hon’ble Court, and searches were conducted at the residences and offices of the accused, as well as his family members and relatives in various districts of Jammu province, Srinagar, and Manali,” the spokesperson added.

During these searches, numerous incriminating documents and valuables were seized for investigation. In the hotels in Manali, an agreement dated 25th February 2022 was recovered, showing that Singh’s wife, Rekha Devi, had purchased 12.03 hectares (240 kanals approx.) of land in Kullu, Manali, for Rs. 2.85 crores, with Rs. 50 lacs paid in advance (Rs. 25 lacs by cheque and Rs. 25 lacs in cash). Additionally, documents related to benami properties were found during a search in Hatli, Kathua.The searches at various locations are ongoing.
