Hina Khan Performs Umrah Amid Cancer Battle, Shares Emotional Journey

Indian actress Hina Khan has shown incredible strength and faith as she performed Umrah during the holy month of Ramadan in 2025. This special pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, was even more meaningful for her as she continues her fight against stage 3 breast cancer. Diagnosed in June 2024, Hina has openly shared her struggles and moments of courage with her fans. Just three and a half months after her surgery, she made this spiritual journey, proving her deep faith and determination.

A Journey of Faith Despite Health Struggles

Hina Khan, best known for her role as Akshara in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, shocked fans when she announced her cancer diagnosis in July 2024. Since then, she has undergone surgery, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy while staying positive and continuing her work.

Deciding to perform Umrah in March 2025 was not easy for her. She admitted on Instagram that she never thought she could make this journey so soon after surgery. “I have so many stitches, little physical strength, and constant tiredness from recovery. Many reasons to not come, yet I am here,” she wrote. Hina believed it was a calling from Allah that she couldn’t ignore.

Travelling with her brother Aamir, she reached Mecca during Ramadan, a time when millions of Muslims visit the city. She described it as the most crowded Umrah she had ever experienced. Still, she managed to reach the Kaaba, the holiest site in Islam, saying, “I had to make my way through thousands of people, but I did it! Allah made it possible for me.”

Emotional Moments in Mecca

Hina shared her journey on social media, posting emotional photos and videos. She wore a simple green abaya and sunglasses, looking peaceful despite the effects of her treatment. One moving photo showed her holding strands of her hair lost to chemotherapy. Another image captured her praying quietly by a marble railing, deep in thought.

In one post, she wrote, “Alhamdulillah. Umrah 2025. Thank you, Allah, for inviting me. I am speechless. May Allah grant me complete healing, Ameen.” She also shared a video from 6:03 AM, expressing her gratitude for being able to pray at the Kaaba. Another post showed her performing Tahajjud and Fajr prayers in the early hours of the morning.

Hina also addressed her physical changes due to treatment. She explained that her darkened nails were not painted but were side effects of chemotherapy. By sharing these details, she hoped to encourage others facing similar struggles.

A Source of Strength and Inspiration

Throughout her battle with cancer, Hina has spoken about how faith and routine keep her strong. Her Umrah was not just a religious duty but also a source of comfort. “My faith in Allah is my biggest strength,” she wrote. She also advised others to follow medical advice and not compare their journeys. “I share my experience to bring hope, but always listen to your body and doctors,” she added.

Her fans and colleagues flooded her posts with supportive messages. Producer Ektaa Kapoor called her a “Warrior Queen,” while actress Sunita Rajwar simply wrote, “Ameen.” However, Hina turned off comments on her religious posts to protect her spiritual experience from negativity online.

Hina’s Cancer Battle Continues

Hina’s Umrah journey came at an important time in her treatment. By early 2025, she had completed chemotherapy and surgery and was undergoing immunotherapy to strengthen her immune system. In a February 2025 update, she said, “My chemo is over, my surgery is done, and my immunotherapy is going well.” Despite the challenges, she continued working, promoting her web series Griha Laxmi and even walking the ramp at Times Fashion Week 2024 during chemotherapy.

She has been open about her experience, from the sadness of cutting her hair to celebrating small victories like returning to work. “I wanted to normalise my journey,” she said in an interview. “Walking the ramp during my treatment made me feel strong and happy.”

Hina Khan’s emotional Umrah journey is a powerful example of resilience, faith, and hope. Even with the scars of surgery and the effects of treatment, she remained strong, drawing strength from her belief in Allah.
