BSF Foils Infiltration Bid in Samba Sector and 7 Terrorists Killed

Despite a formal ceasefire announcement between India and Pakistan, tension remained high on Friday night as Pakistan made multiple failed attempts to target civilian and military sites across Jammu and Kashmir, triggering panic, blackouts, and heightened security operations.

For the second consecutive evening, defence sources confirmed that Pakistan attempted drone and artillery strikes in Jammu, Samba, Nagrota, Pathankot, and surrounding areas. A total of 26 drone sightings were reported, ranging from Baramulla in the north to Bhuj in the south, covering areas along both the International Border (IB) and the Line of Control (LoC).

“Drones were effectively neutralized using advanced counter-drone systems,” defence officials stated, noting the situation remained volatile due to the ongoing threat of further strikes.

Blackouts, Explosions, and Public Panic in Jammu

In Jammu, sirens wailed and explosions were heard intermittently starting around 8:15 pm, plunging parts of the city into darkness. Power supply was briefly restored at 9:45 pm before finally resuming at 10:42 pm.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who was present in Jammu at the time, issued multiple alerts via social media, confirming the explosions and urging people to stay indoors.

“It is my earnest appeal to everyone in and around Jammu: please stay off the streets. Stay safe, and ignore rumours,” he posted on X.

Residents reported a series of loud blasts and sounds resembling heavy artillery fire throughout the night, heightening anxiety across the region.

BSF Foils Infiltration Bid in Samba Sector

Amid the drone activity, the Border Security Force (BSF) foiled a major infiltration attempt in the Samba sector during the intervening night of May 8 and 9.

“Alert BSF troops neutralised at least seven terrorists and inflicted damage on the Pakistani Rangers’ Dhandhar post,” sources said.

This infiltration attempt was reportedly backed by Pakistani firing, a tactic often used to provide cover for cross-border militant entries.

Pakistani Ceasefire Violations Across LoC

Even as diplomatic channels celebrated the ceasefire, ground reports revealed continuing Pakistani violations along the LoC opposite Nowshera, Rajouri, Poonch, and Akhnoor. The violations occurred both during the night and on Friday evening.

Furthermore, loitering munitions—small, explosive-laden drones—were reportedly active between 3:30 am to 4:45 am, causing further unease in the border areas.

Security Clampdown and Civic Response

In response to the growing threat, senior police officials including DIG Jammu-Samba-Kathua Shiv Kumar Sharma and SP City North Vivek Shekhar conducted late-night inspections in sensitive areas such as Hari Market, Raghunath Bazar, Mubarak Mandi, and Kanak Mandi.

Civilians have been advised to follow all police advisories and cooperate with the administration.

Meanwhile, the Chamber of Traders Federation (CTF), Jammu, has asked all market establishments to shut down by 6 pm until the situation stabilizes.

“This is a precautionary step to ensure public safety and readiness for any sudden developments,” the CTF stated.

Fake Claims and Official Denials

Pakistan’s claim of having destroyed the Jammu airbase was dismissed by Indian defence sources as “fake and laughable,” with reference to the PIB Fact Check that labelled the reports as misinformation.

Conclusion

Friday night’s events highlight the fragility of the newly announced ceasefire. While diplomacy may have momentarily prevailed at the top level, tensions on the ground remain extremely high. Security forces are on alert, and the public is being urged to stay cautious, prepared, and away from rumor-driven panic.
