Khelo India Winter Games: Snowfall, Thrilling Competitions, and Dominant Performances at Gulmarg

The Khelo India Winter Games in Gulmarg have once again proved to be a grand celebration of winter sports. The event, held in the famous hill station of Jammu and Kashmir, brought together athletes from across India to compete in various snow sports.

Snowfall Adds to the Excitement
The games began under clear skies, but by Monday, fresh snowfall covered the slopes of Gulmarg, reminding everyone that winter was still in command. Despite the chilly conditions, the athletes remained focused, and all events continued as per schedule. The breathtaking white landscape made the competitions even more thrilling for both participants and spectators.
Athletes Showcase Strength and Skill
Hundreds of players competed in different events, including Vertical Ski Mountaineering, Snowboard Giant Slalom, and the Nordic Ski Sprint. Some previous champions returned to defend their titles, while new talents emerged to make their mark.
In the Vertical Ski Mountaineering (Men’s category), Siddhartha Gadekar from Pune, Maharashtra, won the gold medal. His endurance training paid off as he outperformed his competitors. Shardul Thapliyal and Himanshu Singh from Himachal Pradesh secured silver and bronze, respectively.
For the Women’s Vertical Ski Mountaineering, Tenzin Dolma from Himachal Pradesh claimed gold. An ultra-trail runner by profession, she found the event manageable due to her high stamina. Natasha Mahar from Himachal Pradesh won silver, and Manek Gunjiyal from Uttarakhand, a previous gold medallist in snowboarding, settled for bronze.
Dominance of ITBP and Army in Nordic Ski Sprint
The Nordic Ski Sprint event saw complete dominance by the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) in the women’s category. Kulsum Rana, Selma Soreng, and Anjana Devi won gold, silver, and bronze, respectively.
In the men’s event, Army athletes took home all three medals. Manjeet won gold, Shubam Parihar claimed silver, and Sunny Singh secured the bronze. Their impressive performances left other competitors struggling to keep up.
Giant Slalom and Snowboarding Action
The Snowboard Giant Slalom was another thrilling event. Zubair Ahmad Lone from Jammu & Kashmir showcased his speed and control, winning the gold medal. Kulvinder Sharma and Karan Singh from the Army secured silver and bronze, respectively.
In the Alpine Giant Slalom Women’s category, Himachal Pradesh celebrated a complete sweep. Anchal Thakur won gold, followed by Tanuja Thakur (silver) and Suhani Thakur (bronze).
For the Men’s Alpine Giant Slalom, Sunil Kumar from the Army secured gold, Atul Bhat from ITBP took silver, and Yogesh Kumar from Himachal Pradesh won bronze.
A Grand Display of Winter Sports Spirit
The Khelo India Winter Games at Gulmarg not only showcased top-level competition but also highlighted the growing popularity of winter sports in India. The athletes’ dedication and passion added warmth to the freezing conditions, making the event a grand success.
