Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Calls Mass Detentions in Kashmir “Unprecedented Harassment”

Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has strongly condemned the reported mass detentions in Kashmir following the killing of a retired serviceman. Citing a report in The Indian Express, Mirwaiz said that over 500 people have been detained across the Valley, calling the move “unprecedented harassment.”
In a statement, Mirwaiz expressed concern over the arbitrary arrests of family members and relatives of individuals linked to militancy. He emphasized that every loss of innocent life is condemnable, but targeting people solely for their family ties is unjust and only deepens hostility in the region. He urged authorities to immediately release those who have been detained without cause.
Mirwaiz further stated that such measures create fear and mistrust among the people and disturb the already tense atmosphere in Jammu and Kashmir. He called on the administration to adopt a just and humane approach rather than resorting to mass arrests.
