The principles of truth and non-violence that Mahatma Gandhi upheld remain timeless, transcending geographical and temporal boundaries. These values continue to guide society toward peaceful coexistence and collective well-being, said the Lieutenant Governor during the Shanti Doot Sammelan organized by Gandhi Global Family.

Addressing the gathering, the Lieutenant Governor paid tribute to India’s freedom fighters and honored the families of brave soldiers. He emphasized that the world today is witnessing widespread conflicts, with societies facing disruption due to ongoing aggression. In such times, Gandhi’s teachings are more relevant than ever.

“I firmly believe that Bapu’s ideals will illuminate the right path for humanity. His message of peace and non-violence is the need of the hour,” he remarked.

A Call to Uphold Gandhi’s Ideals

The Lieutenant Governor urged all sections of society to recommit themselves to Gandhi’s vision, advocating for the empowerment of the underprivileged, youth, women, and farmers. He stressed that the mission should be to uplift every deprived individual and integrate them into the mainstream of development.

Recalling Gandhi’s profound words, he stated, “Bapu once said that his life’s mission was to wipe tears from every eye. This should be our guiding principle. The welfare of the marginalized should be the government’s top priority, and society must unite to uplift the poorest.”

Recognition of Efforts in Spreading Gandhian Values

Acknowledging the efforts of Gandhi Global Family J&K, the Lieutenant Governor commended its continuous endeavors to spread Gandhi’s principles of truth, non-violence, and social harmony. Responding to a request from Padma Shri Dr. S.P. Varma, President of the organization, he assured that the month-long Gandhi Jayanti celebrations would continue across Jammu and Kashmir.

“The path to achieving peace, harmony, and development—both in J&K and the world—lies in following Bapu’s ideals,” he reiterated.

Honoring the Champions of Peace

During the event, the Lieutenant Governor was conferred the Shanti Doot Samman for his contributions to promoting peace. Several distinguished personalities, including Padma Shri awardees Dr. S.P. Varma, Prof. Vishwa Murti Shastri, Dr. Jitendra Udhampuri, and Sh. Romalo Ram, along with meritorious students and youth, were also felicitated with the Gandhi Doot Samman.

A two-minute silence was observed in remembrance of Mahatma Gandhi and the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for India’s independence. Attendees also took a pledge to uphold and promote Gandhi’s ideals.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, ADGP Anand Jain, Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar, as well as representatives from civil administration, police, security forces, and various social organizations. Legislators Yudhvir Sethi and Arjun Singh Raju, alongside prominent citizens, also graced the occasion.

Through such gatherings, the message of Mahatma Gandhi continues to resonate, reminding the world that peace and non-violence remain the most powerful tools for progress and harmony.
