JPC Clears WAQF Bill 1995 with 25 Amendments, Paving Way for Final Adoption

The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) recently cleared the WAQF Bill 1995 with 25 amendments across 14 clauses, as announced by JPC Chairman Jagdambika Pal. In his statement, Pal emphasized the committee’s efforts over the past six months to engage with various stakeholders across multiple states, including government officials, WAQF boards, Islamic scholars, and other relevant bodies. He outlined the transparent and democratic nature of the process, which involved extensive consultations and debates on the amendments.
Pal also addressed criticisms from opposition members, noting that every amendment had been given due consideration and subjected to a vote. He stressed that the decision-making process was based on majority voting, with clear records of the results. He assured the public that the proceedings were conducted with transparency, and the outcome of each vote was documented.
Looking ahead, Pal confirmed that the bill, along with the 500-page report, would be presented to the JPC members for final adoption, before being submitted to the Speaker for presentation in Parliament.
This development indicates significant progress in the legislative process for the WAQF Bill, which addresses issues related to the management and administration of WAQF properties in India.
