KPDCL’s MD Mehmood Shah Highlights workplace Safety Commitment, Announces Comprehensive Training For Field Staff

In a bid to enhance workplace safety for its field staff, Managing Director of Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL), Mehmood Shah, highlighted the corporation’s commitment to preventing accidents and ensuring strict adherence to safety protocols.
Speaking exclusively to KNS about the challenges faced by ground staff, Shah underlined the importance of safety measures and announced a comprehensive training program for employees.
“On December 27th, during the restoration efforts, our ground staff was at the forefront, repairing fallen poles and wires to maintain the power supply. These workers play a critical role in ensuring uninterrupted electricity, but unfortunately, incidents of electrocution and fatalities have been reported,” Shah said. He expressed his concern, stating, “I strongly believe that no one should lose their life or get injured while performing their duties. These incidents are completely avoidable.”
Shah emphasized the importance of adhering to safety protocols from day one and highlighted the corporation’s efforts to ensure the well-being of its employees. “We have a training module in place, which every employee is required to undergo.This module includes detailed guidelines on safety protocols, proper usage of safety gear, and creating a safe working environment,” he stated.
Elaborating on the new safety measures, Shah said capacity-building program has been designed for KPDCL’s ground staff. “The program includes practical demonstrations on how to avoid electric shocks, how to use protective gear effectively, and how to install equipment safely. The goal is to eliminate injuries and prevent avoidable accidents,” he said.
Shah also reiterated the importance of providing safety gear to the employees and ensuring its proper utilization. “It is our responsibility to equip our staff with the necessary tools and knowledge to work safely. This training and gear empowers them to carry out their duties without risking their lives,” he remarked.
Shah also emphasized the need to eliminate workplace fatalities. “Our focus is to ensure that no employee suffers an avoidable injury or death. We are committed to stopping these tragic incidents and creating a safe working environment for all,” he said. (KNS)
