Gangster Shot Dead in Daylight Attack at Jewel Chowk Ahead of Republic Day in Jammu

Ahead of Republic Day, a gangster was killed in a daylight shooting by unknown gunmen at Jewel Chowk today. Sumit Jandial (37), alias Gataru, from Vijaypur, was driving his Thar SUV when assailants stopped him and opened fire, leaving him critically wounded. The attackers fled the scene on scooties. Police arrived promptly, and Jandial was rushed to Government Medical College Jammu, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Senior officers, including ADGP Jammu Anand Jain and DIG JSK Range Shiv Kumar Sharma, arrived shortly after. Jain labeled the incident as a result of old gang rivalries, stating the victim was linked to the Gataru gang but did not identify the attackers’ gang. Police teams have been formed to apprehend the assailants. DIG Sharma confirmed that both the attackers and their scooties had been identified and assured arrests would follow soon. A case has been filed at Police Station Nowabad, and investigations are ongoing.
