A soldier from the Indian Army, who was injured during an encounter between terrorists and security forces in the Gujjarpati area of Zaloora, Sopore Kashmir, has tragically succumbed to his injuries, officials confirmed on Monday.

The clash, which began late Sunday evening, was temporarily halted due to the onset of darkness. However, as daylight broke, firing resumed, and the soldier was injured in the ensuing exchange. He was promptly evacuated to a hospital, where he later passed away from his wounds, an official stated.

The anti-terrorism operation in the forests of Sopore continued into its second day on Monday, with security forces intensifying their cordon and search efforts in the area. Officials revealed that the security forces had set up the cordon on Sunday after spotting fire while uncovering a militant hideout. Sources believe that two terrorists may still be trapped in the area.

On Sunday evening, the Jammu and Kashmir Police had provided an update on the operation via their official X (formerly Twitter) handle: “During a CASO launched by Police & SFs at Zaloora, Sopore, a hideout was busted. During the operation, fire was observed from inside. The area was cordoned off, and further details will follow.”

This ongoing operation follows a similar one in the Panipora area of Sopore on November 8, 2024, where security forces successfully eliminated two terrorists and recovered weapons and other incriminating materials.
