Islamic University of Science and Technology Reviews NEP Implementation, Prioritises Internationalisation

Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, Vice Chancellor of the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), highlighted the importance of accountability and awareness among stakeholders to strengthen processes established under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

The review meeting, attended by senior officials including Prof. A H Moon (Dean Academic Affairs), Prof. A W Makhdoomi (Registrar), Prof. Sheikh Javid (Dean Research), and others, discussed the progress of various NEP initiatives. Key areas of focus included multidisciplinary education, course mobility, skill development, and innovation.

During the meeting, Prof. Romshoo underscored the significance of sustained reforms to enhance students’ employability. He emphasised the importance of fostering innovation, societal impact research, entrepreneurship, and new-age skills. “The primary goal of the NEP is to develop well-rounded individuals who can tackle future challenges effectively,” he stated.

Prof. A H Moon, in his presentation, elaborated on IUST’s transition to multidisciplinary education and its efforts to increase enrolments. He highlighted strategies such as offering a broader range of choices to students, enabling them to take charge of their educational journey.

Dean Academic Affairs noted that enrolments at IUST have risen by over 40% compared to the previous year, attributing the growth to improved teaching methods, innovative pedagogy, and enhanced industry exposure. He added that IUST is becoming the preferred institution for students.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Romshoo also pointed out that introducing high-demand courses like Data Sciences, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, and Automation has opened up diverse opportunities for students.

He further stressed the importance of engaging all stakeholders in the Institution Development Plan to ensure a strategy that aligns with contemporary demands. “This will help position IUST as a leading institute in the country,” he concluded.
