Thousands gathered on Friday to attend the funeral prayers of Zubaida Begum, widely known as Zub Soab, a revered spiritual figure in Charar-i-Sharief, Budgam district, central Kashmir.
Zubaida Begum, a 90-year-old dervish from Charar-i-Sharief, passed away on Thursday night at her second son’s home in Baghi Mehtab. Her death left the town in mourning, with many flocking to her gravesite in tears. Known for her spiritual guidance and contributions to Islam, she was deeply respected by her followers, including numerous mystic figures from Kashmir.
Early Friday morning, mourners began arriving at her house. People from various backgrounds came to Charar-i-Sharief to pay their respects, reminiscing about her influence and the affection she garnered across Kashmir.
After Friday prayers, Zub Soab was laid to rest at Pakharpura, Waza Bagh on Charar-i-Sharief road. Her son, Niyaz Ahmad, shared that her body was brought from Bagh-e-Mehtab to her hometown for burial at the pre-selected site. Crowds gathered in large numbers at the site.
The funeral prayer, attended by her grandson Mir Muhammad Iqbal Niazi and many others, was held at the shrine of Sheikh Noorudin Noorani (RA).
Thousands honored her memory and the lasting impact of her spiritual teachings. Local residents expressed that Zub Soab would be greatly missed, with her legacy continuing to inspire and guide on the path of Islam.
Zub Soab frequently visited different parts of Kashmir with her disciples to spread Sufi principles, following the teachings of Sheikh Noorudin Noorani (RA), whose shrine attracts people of various faiths.
